THE FIRST “SCO TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS” ROUND TABLE WAS HELD IN DUSHANBE

On 21 October 2026, the first round table entitled “SCO Transport and Logistics” was held in Dushanbe at the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the SCO Business Council.

The event took place on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of SCO Member States. As part of the event, the first expanded meeting of two SCO Business Council working groups — on Transport and Logistics and on Agriculture — was held.

In her opening remarks, Shoista Saidmurodzoda, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, emphasised that “the transport sector is a strategically important area of the socio-economic development of the Republic of Tajikistan, and its development and modernisation are among the priorities of the country’s state policy”.

Nasimjon Anvarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted in his address that “agriculture is one of the key sectors of Tajikistan’s economy, employing approximately half of the country’s population. Transport and logistics play an important role in the development of the agricultural sector by ensuring the delivery of agricultural produce from dehkan farms to domestic and foreign markets, including for export”.

The role of the Committee for the Development of Transport and Logistics under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan in organising and holding the event was also highlighted.

The first session addressed issues related to expanding cooperation among SCO Member States in transport and logistics, developing international transport corridors, improving conditions for international road transport, and strengthening transport and logistics connectivity among member states.

The second session focused on the development of agrologistics. Discussions covered compliance with veterinary and phytosanitary requirements, the development of refrigerated transport, maintaining the required temperature conditions during the transportation of agricultural products, developing an electronic map of agrologistics infrastructure, and introducing digital platforms for cross-border trade in food products.

Experts and industry specialists from Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan participated in the event both in person and online, exchanging views on current issues related to the development of transport, logistics and agriculture.

Participants emphasised the importance of developing transport and logistics infrastructure, using digital technologies, and strengthening the coordination of international transport corridors to expand mutual trade and increase agricultural exports.

It was noted that such events contribute to strengthening economic and trade cooperation among SCO Member States and provide a foundation for implementing new initiatives by the SCO Business Council and its working groups. The round table creates favourable conditions for developing business ties and identifying new areas of cooperation between the private sector and government institutions of SCO Member States in transport, logistics and agriculture.

It should be noted that more than 60 people participated in the event, including members of the SCO Business Council working groups, representatives of the chambers of commerce and industry of SCO Member States, experts in transport, logistics and agriculture, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the embassies of SCO Member States. Participants attended both in person and online.
